Senator Janet Nguyen's SCR 74 Designating Officer Jon Coutchie Memorial Bridge Passes Senate Transportation Committee

The Senate Transportation Committee has passed Senator Janet Nguyen’s (R-Huntington Beach) SCR 74 which designates the Aliso Creek Bridge in the County of Orange as the Officer Jon Coutchie Memorial Bridge. This legislation aims to honor the life and service of Police Officer Jon Steven Coutchie, a fallen hero who made the ultimate sacrifice while serving the City of Laguna Beach.

Officer Jon Coutchie's distinguished career and dedication to public service were marked by exceptional achievements and unwavering commitment. Following his honorable discharge from the United States Army, he pursued his passion for serving the community by joining the Laguna Beach Police Department. Tragically, Officer Jon Coutchie lost his life in the line of duty on September 21, 2013, while courageously pursuing a reckless driver.

The bill, which garnered support from the Senate Transportation Committee, seeks to designate the Aliso Creek Bridge as the Officer Jon Coutchie Memorial Bridge. This special honor recognizes his invaluable contributions to both the City of Laguna Beach and our nation.

>“I am pleased to announce the passage of my bill, SCR 74, designating the Aliso Creek Bridge as the Officer Jon Coutchie Memorial Bridge through the Senate Transportation Committee,” said Senator Janet Nguyen. “This significant step not only recognizes the remarkable service and sacrifice of Officer Jon Coutchie but also symbolizes our commitment to honoring and remembering our fallen heroes. I remain dedicated to seeing this bill through to its successful enactment.”

“The successful passage of SCR 74 is a testament to Officer Jon Coutchie's legacy and the profound impact he had on our Laguna Beach community,” said Laguna Beach Mayor Bob Whalen. “It also highlights the appreciation and respect that we all hold for all our first responders who selflessly serve and protect us every day.”

As this bill moves forward in the legislative process, it is anticipated that the Officer Jon Coutchie Memorial Bridge will soon become a symbol of remembrance, inspiring future generations to honor and emulate the dedication exemplified by Officer Jon Coutchie.
