Reagan’s words ring true: Sacramento Democrats don’t do ‘temporary’

Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) is sounding the alarm over Governor Newsom and his Sacramento political allies’ ‘temporary’ redistricting scheme:

“President Reagan once stated, ‘Nothing lasts longer than a temporary government program,’ and I completely agree. Time and again, Sacramento Democrats assure voters that their actions are only ‘temporary.’ But history shows that nothing in this Capitol is ever short-lived.

“From so-called ‘temporary’ tax increases that were later made permanent, to pandemic-era regulations that never went away, once Democrats in Sacramento seize more power, they rarely give it back.”

Senator Strickland is warning that the redistricting plan being proposed this week serves as another example of partisan maneuvering. Democrats are seeking voter approval for a political map that would override the California independent citizens' redistricting commission until 2030.  This could lead to nearly a decade of gerrymandered districts created for political advantage — and set a precedent for keeping such schemes in place in perpetuity.
