California Senate Democrats rejected a proposal by Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) to defund the High-Speed Rail and use those funds to reduce the gas tax.

"We have been wasting billions of hardworking families' dollars on a train everybody knows will not be built. When you dig a hole, the best way to get out is to stop digging.

"Governor Newsom and the Democrat Supermajority have raised gas prices every year for the past four years. This tax falls disproportionately on hardworking families living paycheck to paycheck. Many families around the state are forced to choose between a gallon of milk and a gallon of gas.

"Democrats talk about affordability in California. Don't listen to the rhetoric—look at their record. This is an example of why we need new leadership in California to make it golden again," said Senator Strickland.
