Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) issued a statement in response to today’s nonpartisan Legislative Analyst’s Office report on Governor Newsom’s 2026-27 budget proposal:
“Accounting gimmicks won’t fix California’s chronic budget deficit. Hope and prayers won’t balance the books.
“Historically, the Legislature relies on projected deficits and surpluses from the nonpartisan LAO. In this case, Governor Newsom is like Peter Pan. He’s governing with pixie dust and living in Fantasyland.
“Clearly, California doesn’t have a revenue problem. It has a wasteful spending problem. The warning signs are clear, and this Administration is turning a blind eye.”
