Senator Strickland urges incoming CARB chair to prioritize affordability and transparency for Californians

Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) issued a statement as the California Air Resources Board (CARB) prepares to welcome Lauren Sanchez, a recent appointee by Governor Newsom, as its new chair. Sanchez begins her new position on October 1.

“I urge the newly appointed CARB chair to prioritize transparency with the public and focus on affordability for all Californians as she prepares to lead a board of political appointees who currently lack accountability to the public and the legislature. Californians deserve answers, not bureaucracy cloaked in secrecy.

“This is not the time for ambitious and unachievable climate mandates that ignore economic realities and threaten to drive up costs for struggling families in vulnerable communities. More, expensive energy is a bad policy and irresponsible.

"Last year, the chaotic rollout of the state’s Low-Carbon Fuel Standard program is a textbook example of poor governance. The public was left in the dark, the media received no clear answers, and to this day, CARB has failed to provide a straightforward explanation of the program’s impact on gas prices. That is unacceptable from an agency with such sweeping power.”
