Following the passing of Jackie the Bald Eagle, Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) introduced Senate Resolution 140, proclaiming September 4, 2026, as California Wildlife Day in remembrance of Jackie the Bald Eagle. SR 140 has passed the California State Senate with bipartisan support. The beloved California icon has inspired millions worldwide to connect with wildlife and conservation. In 2015, Jackie first captured the public’s attention when Friends of Big Bear Valley installed a webcam at her nest. Over the years, millions of viewers followed Jackie as she found a mate, raised her young, and successfully fledged numerous eaglets, including Sandy and Luna earlier this summer. Alongside her partner, Shadow, Jackie became known as one of the internet’s most beloved bald eagles and a symbol of California’s remarkable wildlife.
“Jackie captured the hearts of people in California and around the world, giving so many of us a front-row seat to the beauty, strength, and resilience of wildlife,” said Senator Strickland. “Her story reminds us that wildfire conservation brings people together. SR 140 recognizes California as one of the most ecologically diverse states in the nation, providing a wide range of habitats for an extraordinary variety of wildlife, including the California Condor, Mojave Desert Tortoise, and Bald Eagle.
