Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) issued the following statement in reaction to the death of Congressman Doug LaMalfa:
“California has lost a great patriot who worked tirelessly to represent families in the North State, serving as a steadfast advocate for them both in Washington, D.C., and throughout the Golden State.
“As a fourth-generation rice farmer representing rural California, Congressman LaMalfa was a strong and respected voice on water and forestry management issues. He was a staunch advocate for rural America and was deeply proud to serve as their representative.
“On a personal note, Congressman LaMalfa and I were roommates during his service in the legislature, and we remained close friends even after he left to serve in Congress. My entire family felt his kindness and warmth. Known as ‘Papa Doug’ by my children, he officiated my wedding. Carla and I are devastated by this shocking news and extend our heartfelt condolences, love, and respect to the congressman’s family and loved ones. May our friend, Congressman Doug LaMalfa, rest in peace.”
