SB 985: The Fix 911 Act

Senate Bill 985 requires the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services (OES) to provide quarterly reports on the mismanaged and long-delayed state 911 system technology upgrade project until its completion, and reopens the question of what monthly phone line surcharge— which OES may raise to $0.80, though it is currently set at $0.41—would be appropriate to support the project. Together, these provisions create transparency and provide opportunities for accountability and oversight of a critically needed project that has thus far proven to be a $455 million fiasco.
