California Turns 175 under Failing Democrat Rule

Senator Tony Strickland (R-Huntington Beach) released the following statement in response to Governor Newsom’s State of the State address, which coincides with California celebrating 175 years of statehood today, marking its entry into the American Union as the 31st state:

“California’s history of 175 years of statehood is a story of patriotism, resiliency, and innovation. As the fourth largest economy in the world, we have Silicon Valley known for its technology and innovation, and Hollywood for global entertainment. Yet, this governor’s leadership has fallen short and we must do better.

“We have a serious affordability and housing crisis directly resulting from failed policies coming out of Sacramento.

“The homelessness crisis persists, even after an astonishing $27 billion has been spent during his time as governor.

“California’s roads and highway rank an unacceptable 49th out of 50 states in overall condition and cost-effectiveness.

“For the first time since the Gold Rush, more people are fleeing California than coming in. That is unacceptable; it is predicted that we will lose four congressional seats by 2030.

“Lastly, our wildfire preparedness is alarmingly inadequate.

“As we celebrate California’s 175 years of statehood, we are one leader away from turning this state around and Making California Golden Again.”
