Senator Strickland commemorates Black April and the Fall of Saigon

Today, Senator Tony Strickland (R–Huntington Beach) issued the following statement commemorating the 51st anniversary of the Fall of Saigon. He is a coauthor of Senate Resolution 106 (SR), a bipartisan resolution commemorating April 30, 2026, as Black April.

“Freedom is never free. Today is a solemn day of reflection and remembrance for the Vietnamese American community that calls Senate District 36 home. In 1975, many fled their homeland in the face of persecution and uncertainty under the newly unified communist regime.

“Black April stands as a powerful reminder of the sacrifices made by Vietnamese refugees who escaped oppression in pursuit of freedom and opportunity in the United States.

“I am honored to represent the vibrant Vietnamese American community of Little Saigon. Their resilience, perseverance, and contributions have enriched our state. Many are not only constituents, but also friends and neighbors.”

Senator Strickland represents the 36th Senate District, which includes portions of Orange and Los Angeles counties, including the Little Saigon community in northwestern Orange County.
